Sabon: Specimen Book and Poster

Behind every book stands not only the writer but also a couple of designers. To create a book we need a story to tell and make it clear, so everybody can understand it, not only the story itself is making it clear.

Concept

Specimens book is a detailed description of all the aspects and features of a particular typeface. It tells the story behind the designer’s decision to create exactly what you can read in the book or online. Knowledge about the typeface helps to decide if it is appropriate to use it in your work. Poor typography choices are running amazing books or artworks and it is crucial to eliminate that possibility.

Theme

Jan Tschichold designed Sabon in 1964. This was in response to a request from German master printers to make a font family that was the same design as the three metal type technologies of the time: foundry type for hand composition, line casting, and single-type machine composition. Classic, elegant, and extremely legible, Sabon is one of the most beautiful Garamond variations.

Material

Sabon typeface specimen book has extremely detailed information. Biography of Jan Tschichold, typeface designer, history of the typeface itself, and its features of it. The book has black, orange, and off-white colors. Orange color works well with the old paper off-white or creamy white color that gives a feeling of that period and its aesthetics.

The past is only the future with the lights on…
